Science

Matter

LEARNING GOALS:
  • I can understand that everything is matter.
  • I can understand that matter is made up of particles.
  • I can identify the different states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas.
  • I can differentiate between physical and chemical changes in matter.
  • I can define and identify different changes in states of matter: evaporation, condensation, melting, and freezing.
WAYS TO SUPPORT AT HOME:
  • Do experiments with water to see it in its different states (ice, liquid, steam).
  • Notice and point out different states of matter you see when you're out and about.
  • Talk about the different changes that occur when manipulating matter (physical and chemical changes).
  • Do experiments at home, including baking, to see the chemical changes of matter.
  • Encourage your child to ask questions, then help them find the answers.
