2D Shapes:
I can identify and describe different shapes.
I can sort 2D shapes by the number of sides and vertices.
I can use different shapes to design patterns.
Symmetry:
I can identify symmetrical pictures.
I can draw the line(s) of symmetry in a picture or shape.
I can draw the missing part of a symmetrical picture.
I can describe symmetrical designs.
3D Figures:
I can identify 3D figures.
I can sort and classify 3D figures by their properties.
I can describe the skeletons of prisms and pyramids.
WAYS TO SUPPORT AT HOME:
Notice the different shapes at home and in nature.
Use the proper names for identifying shapes and correct your child if they use the wrong name (ie. it’s an oval, not a circle).
Build or draw objects and people using different shapes.
Notice symmetrical things at home and in nature.
Ask your child if certain things are symmetrical and why/why not.
Practice drawing or building symmetrical designs or pictures
Notice the different 3D figures at home and in nature.
Use the proper names for identifying 3D figures and correct your child if they use the wrong name (ie. it’s a sphere, not a circle).
