LEARNING GOALS:
2D Shapes:
  • I can identify and describe different shapes.
  • I can sort 2D shapes by the number of sides and vertices.
  • I can use different shapes to design patterns.
Symmetry:
  • I can identify symmetrical pictures.
  • I can draw the line(s) of symmetry in a picture or shape.
  • I can draw the missing part of a symmetrical picture.
  • I can describe symmetrical designs.
3D Figures:
  • I can identify 3D figures.
  • I can sort and classify 3D figures by their properties.
  • I can describe the skeletons of prisms and pyramids.
WAYS TO SUPPORT AT HOME:
  • Notice the different shapes at home and in nature.
  • Use the proper names for identifying shapes and correct your child if they use the wrong name (ie. it’s an oval, not a circle). 
  • Build or draw objects and people using different shapes.
  • Notice symmetrical things at home and in nature.
  • Ask your child if certain things are symmetrical and why/why not.
  • Practice drawing or building symmetrical designs or pictures
  • Notice the different 3D figures at home and in nature.
  • Use the proper names for identifying 3D figures and correct your child if they use the wrong name (ie. it’s a sphere, not a circle).
