Fractions

LEARNING GOALS:
Fractions:
  • I can use fractional names such as halves, thirds, and fourths, to describe the equal parts of a whole object or a set of objects.
  • I can understand the relationship between the number of fraction parts of a whole and the size of the fractional parts.
  • I can regroup fractional parts into wholes.
  • I can compare fractions with the help of diagrams.
WAYS TO SUPPORT AT HOME:
  • Fractions are all over the kitchen. Show your child the measuring cups, cut up a pizza or cake, and talk about how much you have or will eat in fractions (I took 2/8 of the pizza).
  • Let your child help you cook and have them read out the ingredients that are stated in fractions and have them explain how much that is.
